Events taking place around Saint John over the next few weeks:
Card Party
Stella Maris, Bayside Drive, will be hosting a Card Party of 45’s on Saturday, August 25th, 7:30pm in their hall. Doors open at 6:30pm. Cost: $3/person with a light lunch served.
Family Fun Day
St. Rose, Milford Road, will be hosting a Family Fun day in celebration of the feast day of their parish on Sunday, August 26th beginning at 12 noon. Lots of games and prizes for the kids, and there will be a dunk tank.
Rocmaura Auxiliary
Group will be holding their next meeting on Thursday, September 6th, 4pm, in the Rocmaura boardroom.
Evening Prayer
The Sisters of Charity invite you to attend Evening Prayer at Carmel Chapel, 105 Burpee Avenue on Thursday, September 6th, 7pm. All are welcomed to this monthly event. Evening Prayer is a peaceful 30-40 minutes experienced in Word, Music and Silence at the end of the day. Note: October – June Evening prayer will be held at Holy Trinity, 348 Rockland Road.
First Friday Holy Hour And Mass
The monthly First Friday Holy Hour will take place at St. Joachim’s, 603 Loch Lomond Road, on Friday, September 7th from 11am – 12:30pm. The Holy Hour begins at 11am and will consist of exposition, adoration, and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament; concluding with 12 noon Mass.
Breakfast
The K of C will be holding their monthly breakfast at the Assumption Center, Chapel Street, on Sunday, September 9th, 9am – 1pm. Cost: Adults $7, Children $3. The proceeds go to Kidney Foundation and Alzheimer Society.
St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary
Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 11th, 2pm, in Room 11 at the hospital.
Zumba Gold
Zumba Gold classes at Saint Joachim’s resume on Tuesday, September 11th at 10am. Zumba Gold is perfect for beginners, modifying the pace and the moves of regular Zumba classes making them easier for older or less active participants. Just like the nighttime classes, Zumba Gold is only $5 per person. If you haven’t tried Zumba yet because you thought you might not be able to keep up, this is your chance to get in on the fun! Cards
K of C #6770 will be hosting a Keep Your Partner night of Auction 45’s on Saturday, September 15th, 7pm, at the Assumption Centre, Chapel Street. Tickets are $10/couple and are available by calling Ed (672-6234) or Betty-Jo (635-5971). Proceeds are going towards furnishings for the waiting room of the Regional Hospital’s Heart Unit.
Mass For Those Living With Cancer
Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 17th, 6:30pm, at the Cathedral. Mass will be offered for the intention of people living with cancer and for their families and friends. The Sacrament of Anointing will take place following Mass for those who request it. Please note changes to date/time/location.
Mass For Healing
Fr. Paul LeBlanc will be celebrating a Mass for Healing on Thursday, September 20th, 7pm at St. Peter’s, Clarendon Street. Mass will be followed by Adoration, Reconciliation, and Prayer Teams, closing with Benediction at 9pm. All are welcome. For more information, contact Joanie Marks (635-5727).
Rocmaura Dinner And Auction
14th Annual Event takes place September 22nd at the Trade & Convention Centre. Viewing begins at 5pm. Tickets are $100 ($50 tax receipt). Proceeds are going towards new wardrobes for residents. To donate auction items, or to purchase tickets, call Rocmaura (643-7090 or foundation@rocmaura.com).
Bingo
St. Pius X will be hosting their annual Harvest Moon Bingo on Wednesday, September 26th. Early Bird Games begin at 6pm, Regular Games at 7pm. $1,000 Jackpot. Tickets are $20 and are available at the St. Pius parish office, or by calling Marie (696-8169).
Casino And Auction
Event will be held at St. John the Baptist, 60 Broad Street, on Saturday, September 29th, 7pm. Tickets are $20, and are available by calling Maureen (633-0391), Liz (639-1225), or at the door.
Bingo
Stella Maris, Bayside Drive, will be holding a bingo game on Sunday, September 30th. Doors Open at noon; Early Bird Games at 1pm; Regular Games at 2pm. $1,000 Jackpot + nine regular games with second chance. Mental Health Education
The Canadian Mental Health Association is beginning registration for their fall education programs. Beginning October 4th, they will be holding “Understanding Anxiety & Panic Disorder”. Seating is limited and advance registration is required. For more information, or to register, call 633-1705.
