During the month of October the CWL is involved with the White Ribbon Against Pornography Campaign. This involves having a white ribbon as well as a petition signed. These will then be delivered to our Member of Parliament. The petition and the ribbon will be at the back of the Church on Saturday, October 17th and Sunday, October 18th.

Weekend Mass Intentions
It has come to our attention that not everyone realizes that we are required to offer one Mass on the weekend “For the Parish”. These aren’t “fillers” because we didn’t get two intentions for the weekend; we’re just following the rules. As a result, we really only have 52 weekend Mass intentions available throughout the year; which is why you are encouraged to book Masses well in advance. For those interested, the next weekend Masses still available to be booked are in June.
Vestry Chapel
Given the relatively modest crowds that we receive each day for daily Mass, and the large amount of space in the vestry, we have decided to convert part of it into a “chapel”. This conversion will just consist of some floor to ceiling drapes that will mask out some of the less visually appealing portions of the vestry – closets, storage, etc. By having daily Mass in the vestry, we expect to be able to save a fair amount of money on both heating and lighting costs. Anyone who has ever had curtains or drapes made for their home knows that they aren’t cheap, and this job will require all custom work. While we expect that a portion of these expenses will be recouped through lower energy bills, any donations to the cause would certainly be most appreciated. You may make a donation to this effort by using one of our building funds envelopes and marking “Vestry” on it. We realize that this, combined with the fundraising for the floor and Christmas Baskets, amounts to asking for a great deal all at once. So please don’t feel pressured to give to all, or any, of these projects.
Christmas Baskets – October 10 & 11
This coming weekend we are asking you to bring in Chunky Soup/Stew.
The complete list of food items is available here.
Coffee Sunday
Our first Coffee Sunday of the fall will be on Sunday, October 18th after Mass. As always, you are encouraged to bring sandwiches and sweets.
Sunday Envelopes
The Sunday Envelopes for 2010 will be out in the next week or two. If your address has changed over the last year, please call or email the office with your updated contact information. Remember, if we don’t have a current mailing address on file, we can’t send out your tax receipts to you.
Religious Education
Religious Education classes begin on Sunday, October 18th at 9:30am. This year we will be having a Confirmation class. Registration for all students takes place during the first morning of classes. We remind parents once again that we are required to have proof of Baptism on file. Unfortunately, if you don’t provide us with a Baptism Certificate your child will not be able to receive sacraments such as First Communion and Confirmation.
Christmas Baskets
Note: While we will attempt to run the list of food items each week in the bulletin, space limitations may not make that possible. We suggest you either save the PDF file linked below or print it out for future reference.
We also need cash donations to pay for turkeys, milk, bread and other perishable items. These can be placed in the collection at any time. Please mark the envelope “Christmas Baskets”. The Mitten Trunk will be available in the Church during Advent to receive mittens, socks, hats and gloves for the children.
Your donations have made Christmas better for hundreds of people every year. We fully expect that your continued generosity will enable Holy Trinity to continue that tradition this Christmas.
Times for Registration/Pickup of the Baskets and Empty Stocking Fund will be announced at a later date.
The Family Centre Floor Fund
You may have noticed that the floor in the Family Centre is not in the best of shape. The state of the floor has deteriorated to the point where it has become a safety issue. We are going to replace the floor in the VERY near future, and are asking for your financial support toward this project. If you would like to make a donation to our new Floor Fund, please use one of the Building Fund envelopes located at the entrance of the church. We ask that you write “Floor” on the outside of the envelope so that we can keep money for the floor separate from regular Building Fund donations. As with all donations, we thank you in advance for your generosity.
649 Draw
We had four winners this time – Linda Cleary, Frances Kincade, Kathy McCavour and Barry Worden. They split the prize of $2075, so each wins $518.75. Thank to everyone who played and supported our latest game.
