Events taking place around Saint John over the next few weeks:

Flea Market & BBQ
Stella Maris, Bayside Drive, will be holding their annual event on Saturday, June 1st, from 8am – 2pm.

Perennial Sale
The Saint John Area School String Program is holding its annual Perennial Sale on Saturday, June 1st, at the Family Center behind St. Rose School, Manawagonish Road, from 9am – 12 noon. There will be a huge selection of perennials available at great prices, as well as fresh baked goods on the Bake Sale table. All remaining plants will be 50% off between 11am – noon. Plant donations are welcomed (672-4042 for details). Bring a friend; enjoy a coffee and muffin while you browse through the plants, and support string music in the Saint John schools.

Supper & Auction
St. William’s Mission, St. Martins, is hosting a Soup & Cake Sampler Supper, followed by an Auction, on Saturday, June 1st. Viewing of auction items begins at 4:30pm; supper at 5pm; and the Auction will follow the supper. Tickets are $8, and will be pre-sold by calling Kathy (833-1086).

Bingo
St. Ann’s, 135 Simpson Drive, will be holding a Bingo on Sunday, June 2nd. Doors open at 12pm; 50/50 Games from 12 – 1pm; 9 Regular games to follow; $1000 Jackpot. Tickets are $20 and are available from Marilyn (633-0549) or the parish office (653-6870).

Holy Hour With Pope Francis
On the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, Sunday June 2nd, the Holy Father will be presiding at an hour of Eucharistic Adoration in St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican, in communion with all Bishops and their local diocesan communities throughout the world. Joining the Holy Father and our Bishop Robert Harris for this Holy Hour will be a wonderful universal gesture of spiritual sharing, especially as we celebrate this “Year of Faith” in our Church. Everyone is invited to join our Bishop for this Hour of Adoration in our Cathedral Church on Sunday June 2nd, at 3pm. It is an opportunity to be in communion with the Successor of Peter, our Bishop and our Diocesan Community in a prayer of adoration to Jesus present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.

Seniors’ Mass & Lunch
The next Seniors’ Mass & Lunch will be held at Villa Madonna, Rothesay, on Wednesday, June 5th. Mass is at 11am, followed by lunch. Cost: $10. To register, call the Villa (849-5125).

Evening Prayer
The Sisters of Charity invite you to attend Evening Prayer at Carmel Chapel, 105 Burpee Avenue, on Thursday, June 6th, 7pm. Evening Prayer is a peaceful 30-40 minutes experienced in Word, Music and Silence at the end of the day.

Cursillo
Next Ultreya will be held on Thursday, June 6th, 7:30pm at the Rocmaura Club Room, Park Street. Please note the change of venue.

First Friday Holy Hour And Mass
The monthly First Friday Holy Hour will take place at St. Joachim’s, 603 Loch Lomond Road, on Friday, June 7th from 11am – 12:30pm. The Holy Hour begins at 11am and will consist of exposition, adoration, and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament; concluding with 12 noon Mass.

Flea Market
St. Ann’s, Simpson Drive, will be holding a Flea market on Saturday, June 8th, from 8am – 1pm. Contact the parish office (653-6870) for more information.

Perennial Sale
Symphony NB will be holding their annual sale on Saturday, June 8th, from 9am – 12 noon, at St. Paul’s Church hall on the Rothesay Common. There will be a large selection of perennials, trees and shrubs all sold at great prices. Any remaining plants will be 50% off after 11am. Donations of plants can be made on Friday, June 7th at St. Paul’s Church Hall, 6pm – 8pm. For more information, call 693-6819 or 672-4042.

K of C Breakfast
The K of C will be holding their monthly breakfast on Sunday, June 9th, from 9am – 1pm, at The Assumption Center, Chapel Street. Cost: Adults $7, Children $3.

Book Launch & Signing
Dr. Israel Unger, a Holocaust survivor now living in Fredericton, will be speaking at the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum, 91 Leinster Street, on Sunday, June 9th, 3pm, at the official opening of the Museum. He will also be signing copies of his recently published memoirs, “The Unwritten Diary of Israel Unger”. Dr. Unger will speak about being a Holocaust survivor who survived with his family by hiding for two years behind a false wall in a flour warehouse in Tarnow, Poland. Dessert & Card Party
The Heart & Stroke Foundations will be holding a Dessert & Card Party on Monday, June 10th, 1 – 4pm, under the tent at Rothesay High School. Tickets are $20 ($10 Tax Receipt). Call 848-5464 to reserve tables of four or to purchase individual tickets.

Card Game
On Saturday, June 15th, 7pm, St. Joachim’s, 603 Loch Lomond Road, is hosting a “Keep Your Partner” night of Auction 45s. First Prize is $100, second is $80, and third is $40. There will be a light lunch served after the games. Come out for an evening of fun and make new friends. Tickets are $10 for 2 people, and are available at the door. Proceeds are in support of Outreach programs.

Evening Prayer
All are welcome to Evening Prayer on Tuesday, June 18th, 7pm, at St. Alphonsus, Church Street, Hampton.

Card Game
Stella Maris, Bayside Drive, will be holding a Keep Your Partner game of 45’s on Saturday, June 22nd, 7:30pm. Doors open at 6:30; $5 per person.

K of C Anniversary Dance
K of C 8364 will be celebrating their 30th Anniversary with a dinner and dance in the St. Joachim’s Parish Center, 603 Loch Lomond Road, on Saturday, June 22nd. The dance will be open to the public; doors will open at 9pm. Tickets are $5, and can be purchased from Conrad Haney (696-5478), Harold Richardson (696-7954) or Peter Flewelling (634-8989).

Zumba
Ditch the workout, join the party – try Zumba every Monday and Wednesday from 7 – 8pm at St. Joachim’s parish hall, 603 Loch Lomond Road. Only $5 per person. Call Marie (696-8169) for more information.

Jam Session
Monday Night Country and Blue Grass Jam held at Stella Maris Church, Bayside Drive. Doors open at 5:30pm, music begins at 7pm. There is a $2 charitable donation to help defray heating costs. Zumba Gold
Saint Joachim’s holds Zumba Gold classes in the parish hall every Tuesday at 10am. Zumba Gold is perfect for beginners, modifying the pace and the moves of regular Zumba classes making them easier for older or less active participants. Just like the nighttime classes, Zumba Gold is only $5 per person. If you haven’t tried Zumba yet because you thought you might not be able to keep up, this is your chance to get in on the fun! Christian Meditation
Everyone is welcome each Tuesday, 10am at the Villa Madonna.

Senior’s Cards at the St. Joseph’s Church HOPE Centre every Tuesday from 1- 3pm.

Prayer Group
The Crown of Glory prayer group meets every Tuesday at 7:30pm at St. Joachim’s.

Card Party
St. Ann’s, 135 Simpson Drive, holds a weekly 45’s party every Wednesday from 1 – 3pm. Admission is $5. Call Jeannette (633-9405) for more information.

Come out for a night of fun at the Knights of Columbus Bingo every Friday at St. Joachim’s. Doors open at 5pm. Early games start at 6:30pm; regular games at 7pm. Come and try your luck!
